Where to eat in Marrakech

Marrakech is a city that excites your palate; a sensory overload of smells, sights and tastes. Within this busy city is a hub of restaurants, markets, bars, cafes and stalls vying for your attention- all offering fantastic food unique to the area and guaranteeing a taste of North Africa. With the increasing popularity of Marrakech City Breaks, lowcostholidays.com thought it was time to share our knowledge in this great city.

Classic cuisine from Morocco that has made its way abroad includes couscous, tajines and the city’s famous refreshment mint tea. Making it one of the world’s most exciting culinary destinations is its variety, and the ability to experience so much for less. Here is our guide to eating in Marrakech

Jemma El Fna

The Jemma El Fna is what makes Marrakech the vibrant city that so many have fallen in love with. Part of its everlasting appeal is the culinary experience it offers. During the day the Jemma El Fna is quieter but still works as the place to experience the best of Marrakech’s cuisine. Highly recommended to start the day is the fresh juice on offer, incredibly fresh and colourful this works as many visitors first foray into the market and gives you the confidence to try more.

As the sun sets in Marrakech the food stalls and temporary restaurants arise. Within minutes there is one of the world’s largest and most intriguing al fresco dining sites before you. Here you will be confronted with plenty of hustle and bustle, and a unique atmosphere as market traders, locals and tourists mix to explore the world famous market.

Tips for getting the most of the market:

  1. Where there is a queue to eat there is good food- Don’t be turned off by a 5 minute wait, the locals know where it is best to eat so follow the crowd.
  2. Eat little and often- You will be bombarded by choice and intrigued to try all that is on offer. To get the best of the market and take in all of its delights, try and test.
  3. Street Food and Cafes- Although the square is dominated by street stalls that have to be experienced, visit nearby cafes and you will enjoy a different view of the Jemma El Fna. Serving patisseries and refreshing Mint tea you are able to peer down from terraces and take in a different view.
