British Fashion has always been at the peak of the industry – whether we’re pushing country tweed or styling the nation with summer classics, people looking to Britain will always find what’s on trend.
Being a holiday company, we’ve noticed that there is one thing that, though visible on the high-street at places like American Apparel and Urban Outfitters, hasn’t really made it’s impact like it has on the continent; it’s short shorts for men. On a recent trip to Barcelona, it was quite clear that this trend has taken over Summer Fashion. Whether it’s on the beach or city sight-seeing, European men are ready to take on the short shorts; not so here in the UK – so, we’re weighing up the pro’s and con’s of this Summer 2011 trend – short Shorts for Men is going through the lowcostholidays judging machine!
The Case For:
Let’s face it lads, ask most ladies what they’d like to get their hands on whilst on holiday and they’ll probably list one, two or all of the following; a tall, dark handsome Italian; a tall, dark, handsome Spaniard or a Frenchman. Are they trying to tell us something? If these guys can get away with it, then why can’t we? We guarantee these guys will be sporting the short shorts like nobodies business this summer.
The obvious benefit is the limit to tan-lines. British men have a world-wide reputation for either being burnt all the time or having ridiculous tan-lines (or, to be fair, a combination of the two). Short Shorts reduce this problem. Now, it’s just up to you to not get burnt – one less thing!
One place to find these bad boys will be Shoreditch – arguably London’s coolest place to hang out. If you’ve recently just had a side-parting put in, are busting out a Denim shirt and own a pair of boating shoes – you’re one step away from investing in Short Shorts for Men; take a deep breath and take the plunge!
The Case Against:
‘Well, it’s not very British is it’…Us Brits know how to look good but, we do it in our own little way – subtler and more sophisticated. Short shorts are neither of these things. You rock up to the beach in these, you better be confident in what you’re doing!
You’d better hit the gym lads! These things don’t leave much to the imagination so there’s no time for a muffin-top! With this said, holidays are meant to be relaxing, you don’t want to have to worry about what you look like 24/7.
What’s wrong with the normal shorts anyway? Stand up for being ‘a normal guy’ and stick to your guns – shorts are shorts at the end of the day – they’re there to relax in and cool you down, who cares how long or short they are!
In conclusion:
In our opinion the standard short is always best; medium to knee-length is fine with us. On the rare occasion, if you’re too cool for school; go for it – will Short Shorts for Men kick off here in the UK? We think, no!
