Barcelona Beaches

Barcelona has long been a top destination for tourists from across the world. The long list of attractions, fabulous array of architecture, great food and fantastic nightlife have attracted a wide range of visitors and have made it the 4th most visited city in Europe. City breaks to Barcelona aren’t just about the urban adventures though, because along the city’s coastline there are 4.5km of golden sandy beaches.

Beaches Beaches Beaches

Of the 7 beaches, Barceloneta is one of the longest and perhaps the most popular. It is also the closest to the centre, within easy walking distance and well served by the metro. In 2005 the Discovery Channel named Barceloneta the ‘World’s Best Urban Beach’, quite an accolade for a city whose coastline was looking tired and run-down until its rejuvenation for the 1992 Olympics. There is plenty to do on this stretch from enjoying the great bars and clubs along the promenade, to kite surfing and windsurfing. Accommodation in the area is also popular, with hotels for all budgets and easy access to the rest of the city.

What beach should you go to?

The different beaches tend to attract different crowds. For sporty types, Marbella beach has basketball, table tennis and a half pipe, which also makes it popular with families. Sant Miguel is popular with gays and Sant Sebastia is an unofficial nudist beach. Bogatell beach offer arguably the trendiest beach bars, in the summer it the perfect place to spend an evening.
