Footballers and their glamorous WAGS (Wives and Girlfriends) have always hit the headlines, and in recent months have seen even more column inches dedicated to this breed of super glamorous and super rich (thank you Mr. Giggs). Lowcostholidays.com has realised that Sardinia is becoming a popular destination for many a celebrity to pout for the paparazzi and soak up the Mediterranean rays.
Holiday favourites Mr and Mrs Redknapp have been spotted enjoying the island, along with Abby Clancy and Peter Crouch. Other celebrities Gwyneth Paltrow and Geri Halliwell have holidayed there this summer too. So what attracts the rich and famous to the island?
The island of Sardinia is the largest island in the Mediterranean and is in fact closer to Africa than Italy, guaranteeing hot summer months and mild winter months. As it is an island, beaches are plenty and range in beautiful sandy beaches to rocky terrain that are filled with mysterious caves.
The accommodation in Sardinia isn't too shabby either with 5 star resorts in abundance. These exclusive hotels are situated in the Costa Smeralda, the north eastern region of the island. An exclusive room can cost upwards of £400 a night. We know that price is no problem for celebrities but why pay that much? The exclusive resorts share a similar theme; hotels are set in beautiful exclusive locations and private beaches along the Costa Smeralda coastline. Hotels are authentically Sardinian in their design, with all modern amenities as celebrity guests are waited on hand and foot. Not a bad life hey?
The north eastern region of Sardinia has been a hotspot for celebrities and high society for more than 50 years. Prince Karim Aga Khan was the original backer and builder of the Cost Smeralda (the emerald coast) region of the island, an area exclusively built for international high society and millionaires. In the Prince's own words, 'The sea here takes on particularly lovely hues, ranging from the darkest blue to the purest green. There are scores of fine, sandy beaches with not so much as a cat on them. Rugged green and gray mountains drop abruptly toward the water. A carpet of purple and yellow, and red and blue flowers perfumes the air.'
Along with its natural beauty there are a number of attractions that bring in the rich and wealthy; world class water sport events are held often, renowned Golf courses are a plenty, as are the copious amounts of boutique shops. Sardinia offers celebrities privacy, high class accommodation and sunshine they crave in the summer months. However do not let that put you off, with three international airports holidaying in Sardinia is cheaper than ever. Visit Our Sardinia page and find out for yourself!
