Sunset Strip Music Festival, Hollywood
This music festival operates on West Hollywood's Sunset Strip, California between 26th and 28th August. On 26th and 27th, many rock legends and up and coming bands play the various venues around the Strip, with the 28th August bringing the main street festival with its outdoor stages open all day. The festival kicks off on the Thursday with a tribute to the legendary guitarist Slash, just as last year's event did the same for Ozzy Osbourne. Taking place at the House of Blues club, this invite-only event will include tributes from Slash's personal friends, as well as music in tribute to him. They're even declaring the whole day 'Slash Day'. Thursday and Friday see an eclectic mix of bands perform at venues all across the Strip, with clubs such as Whisky a-Go-Go, the Viper Room, the Roxy Theatre and the Key Club. On the Saturday, the outdoor street festival will include two outdoor stages, and will be headlined by the Smashing Pumpkins. In total, over fifty bands will perform at the event. The Sunset Strip may have passed its glory days as the centre of a thriving counter-culture scene, but this festival may just temporarily bring them back. The whole Strip is closed for the event, and transformed into another world for a day while the street festival is on, with music stages, beer gardens and crowds of people soaking up the atmosphere. There's likely to be a bit of youthful energy around too that wouldn't be seen elsewhere, as there are no age restrictions on the street festival, and tickets are a pretty reasonable $49.50. The Sunset Strip Music Festival is a fantastic chance to party with 20,000 other music lovers in true Hollywood style, and to relive the Strip's glory days.
